  2. Early Life • 1871 Mariano Fortuny was born to a family of artists in Granada Spain. • 1874 His father passes away, and his mother moves the family to Paris where he studies painting under an uncle • 1889 He moves Venice with his mother

  3. Rising Star 1897 Foutuny meets Henriette Negrin future partner and wife 1906 begins work in textiles 1919 Fortuny moves production to a factory

  5. Inovation • Fortuny Cyclorama Dome • Fortuny Moda Lamp • Mushroom Pleating

  6. Expansion In 1927 Elsie McNeill Lee sees Fortuny's fabrics hanging in the Carnovalet museum. She goes to Venice to meet him, and becomes the exclusive American distributor.

  7. The End Fortuny dies in 1949, Elsie takes over the factory on Giudecca, when she dies its passed to her confidant Riad Maged who passed management to sons Mikey and Maury.
