Introduction The thick-billed parrot (Rhynchopsitta pachyrhyncha) is an endangered, medium-sized, up to 38 cm long, bright green parrot with a large black bill and a red fore crown, shoulder and thigh. Adult eyes are amber, while juveniles have brown eyes.  It is one of only two species of parrot that once lived in the United States.

  3. Diet Thick-billed parrots eat pine seeds, some acorns, juniper berries, conifer buds, agave nectar and insect larvae.

  4. Reproduction Eggs are usually laid between mid-June and late July, and hatch between mid-July and late August. They lay 2-3 eggs. About two months after hatching , the young parrots leave the young parrot. For up to a year after hatching, the young are dependent on the parents to feed them and help them learn to find food by themselves.

  5. Behaviour Thick-billed parrots live in flocks and feed and sleep in groups. They don’t mind cold weather and eat snow as a water source. Their loud calls, which sound like human laughter, can be heard almost a mile away.

  6. Habitat • It is restricted to Mexico, though it used to live in the south western United States.

  7. Conclusion • Thick-Billed parrot is endangered because of habitat destruction and illegal bird trading.We have to save these animals by stopping illegal trading and habitat destruction.
