  4. Warm up 1. What principle of government is illustrated by the picture below?

  5. Warm up 4. Why did our “Founding Fathers” want to include the principle of “Separation of Powers”? What if the executive branch has all the power?

  6. Essay Your essay should be a page in length AND have supportive evidence. Do you think that the principle of Separation of Powers is a good way to set up and run a government? • Write about what separation of powers means and tell why the “Founding Fathers” included this principle in the constitution made this principle. Give an example of what it would be like if we did NOT have this principle • Write about each branch and tell at least one of its most important responsibilities. • Write about why it is important to separate the power of government. Give an example of separation of power in your life and how it affects you.

  7. Topic sentence – Separation of powers is a good/bad way to run a government. • Write what separation of powers means and why the constitution uses this principle. • Give an example separation of powers in your life and what would happen if you didn’t have it. I think that the principle of separation of powers is a good way to set-up and run a government. It is always a good thing when power is divided so that no one group has complete control. For example, can you imagine if the students here at BBMS had complete control? It could be chaos. Whatever students wanted that’s what would happen. This is bad because it might threatened the well-being of others. Therefore I think dividing the government’s power into 3 branches is a good idea. No one group should have the power to do what ever they want. .

  8. Another reason separation of powers is good is because …. • Write about each branch and its most important responsibilities. Another reason separation of power is a good principle is that it makes it hard for one branch to have too many responsibilities. I know that it can be over-whelming when several teachers give homework on the same night. The student is the only one responsible for doing the homework and there is no one else who can do it. At least in our government the responsibilities are divide up three ways so that each branch can focus on their responsibilities and accomplish more work.

  9. Write about why separation of power is important to the people. • Give an example of what would happen to the people if there was no separation of power Finally, I think that the principle of separation of powers is a good thing because it helps to limit the power of the government and keep the people safe. If the president had the power to make laws, judge laws and enforce laws he could create a dictatorship and we would live in a country where there was an unlimited government. The leader could make up or change the rules at any time regardless of what the people want or need. This is scary and dangerous to imagine.

  10. Write a conclusion restating the 3 main points about why it is important to have the principle of separation of power In conclusion, separation of powers is a good way to run a government. It keeps the people safe, it helps the government be more effective and it limits the power of the leaders in our government.
