  1. EXPLORING THE SALMON RUN MIGRATION VICTOR OLERSKIY Member of the Board of Directors at Russian Fishery LLC

  2. " Salmon run is the name given to the migration of salmon, usually in the autumn months, where the fish return from the ocean and swim up-river to spawn on the gravel beds. They use magnetoception to locate the river where they were born and begin the arduous journey upstream. Salmon Early Life Salmon Spawning When the time comes for the adult salmon to spawn, it returns to the river. To a high degree of ac- curacy, most salmon are known to return to the same river they were born in. Once they reach their destination, the salmon spawn and most of them will then die. This annual event can be a major one, not only for the salm- on but for their hunters, including human anglers, bald eagles and grizzly bears. Newly spawned salmon spend the early part of their life living in the rivers, following which they migrate to the oceans. This time spent living in the ocean is when the salmon gain most of their body mass and live their adult lives. Victor Olerskiy
