  2. Lessons Learned: 1. Narrow focus - What ONE thing can be accomplished? Reading & writing across all content areas 2. Build a culture of high expectations. Success for 100% of students 3. Make data driven decisions & use current brain research

  3. Lessons Learned: 4. Equipping teachers with the same tool box for dealing with struggling students & coaching support 5. Faculty buy in is key. We must remove things from the plate. 6. Create an accountability plan to sustain change

  5. 20th Century Skills vs. 21st Century Skills - The Difference • Today the CONTENT is only a piece of what our students need to be competitive in the work place. • We need to focus on 21st century skills: * critical thinking * communication and information skills * personal productivity and people skills

  6. Current brain research to consider… Not all students learn the same! Among all learners: 46% are visual 37 % hands on 17 % auditory To reach them all, we need highly visual, hands on and rich in media learning

What we are proposing… • Form a core team to examine and guide the improvement process regarding K-12 literacy • Focus attention on struggling learners and developing a strong co-teaching structure 2. Develop instructional strategies that work well for all students & common expectations for all classes (common writing rubric) 3. Co-teaching is the vehicle to improve all student learning!
