  3. Brotherly Kindness: • “love Christians cherish for each other as brethren.” Thayer • “You might consider Love the Cause and Kindness the Effect.” • Love can only flourish where Godliness is found in Christians • Essential for our soul’s salvation

  4. Brotherly Kindness: • Old Testament: • Zechariah 7:8-10 “show mercy & compassion… none of you plan evil in his heart against his brother.” • New Testament • 1 Peter 2:17 “love the brotherhood” • Ephesians 4:32 “be kind…”

  5. How May This be Shown? • Conversation- • Proverbs 31:26 “law of kindness” • Proverbs 18:21 “death and life” • Proverbs 15:4 “wholesome tongue” • Proverbs 15:1 “soft answer” • Need to Control Our Tongue – especially with our Brethren

  6. How May This be Shown? • Sympathetic- • Romans 12:15 “rejoice & weep with others” • Hebrews 13:3 pray for them • 1 Corinthians 12:23-27 - Church function as a Unit or Body • “the members should have the same care for one another.”

  7. How May This be Shown? • Sensitive to Needs of Brethren- • Galatians 6:2 “bear one another’s burdens” • Philippians 2:3,4 “esteem others better than himself… not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others.” • 1 John 3:17,18

  10. How May This be Shown? • “Golden Rule-” • Matthew 7:12 NKJV 12 "Therefore, whatever you want men to do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets.” • Not only Kind to those who are Kind, treating people way we want to be treated.

  11. How May This be Shown? • Return Good for Evil- • Matthew 5:46 not only Love those who Love You • 1 Peter 3:8,9 “love as brothers, tenderhearted, courteous, not returning evil for evil…” • Romans 12:21 “overcome evil with good”

  12. How May This be Shown? • Humble Attitude Toward Each Other- • Romans 12:10 “kindly affectionate” = family environment • “preference” value brother or sister want best for them, ahead of ourselves • 1 Corinthians 8:12 “sinned against Christ”

  13. 5 But also for this very reason [since God has given us all things that pertain to LIFE and GODLINESS, with Exceeding great & precious promises, land made us partakers of the Divine nature], giving all diligence [with SPEED], add to your faith virtue, to virtue knowledge, 6 to knowledge self-control, to self-control perseverance, to perseverance godliness, 7 to godliness brotherly kindness, and to brotherly kindness love.” 2 Peter 1:5-7
