DOMESTIC NEEDS

  • In 2006, power plants produced 170 Billion kWh:
    • 41 % natural gas-fired plants
    • 27 % coal-fired plants
    • 27 % hydro & wind
    • 5 % oil-fired
  • Demand is growing by 8% per annum.
  • By 2020, projected need will be 400 – 500 Billion kWh
slide3

MEETING THE DEMAND

  • TURKEY IS OIL AND GAS POOR
  • COAL RESOURCES, BUT 93% LIGNITE
  • SIGNIFICANT HYDRO:
    • ECONOMICALLY USABLE POTENTIAL: 35,000 MW
    • CURRENT GENERATING CAPACITY: 13,000 MW
  • OTHER RENEWABLES: WIND, SOLAR
      • RENEWABLE ENERGY LAW OF 2005
  • PLANS FOR NUCLEAR, BUT MANY OBSTACLES
