Background • EVC Grey, VCs Hamilton and Wall, and VP Bruno appointed Workgroup • Workgroup developed requirements • Twelve RFIs sent out • Researched other Universities’ programs • Created web site: http://computerownership.ucdavis.edu • Collaborated on Admissions mailing • Shortlist of four vendors

  3. Key Requirements • Custom UCD image • Windows 2000 Pro, Office 2000 Std., Norton Anti-virus, Eudora, utilities • Competitive prices • Provision of MAC address for pre-setup of accounts • Three coordinated sales channels: • Web • Direct • UCD Bookstore

  4. Key Requirements (Cont.) • 4-year on-site warranty • Recovery disk • UCD inserts in packaging • Collateral marketing • UCD approval of site changes • Notification of h/w, s/w changes • Support plan

Programmatic Overview • Selected vendor: Dell • Although Apple didn’t meet the requirements, they will be referenced with a link as an alternate platform • Program components: • Two desktop, two laptop configurations • Online/Bookstore/Direct purchasing • 4-year on-site warranty • Financial aid available

Programmatic Overview (Cont.) • Program components (cont.): • Custom UCD software pre-configured • Bookstore can offer alternate financing arrangements • IT Express remains first line of support • Summer Advising, STEP, etc. • ResNet consultants, ITX, LM training • Site content, documentation, Bovine Online

  7. Current Status • Can reserve machines through Bookstore • Hold-ups:XP and NAV glitches • Online sales targeted for 9/15 • Working with Bookstore, Law School, GSM to mitigate date slippage • Site: computerownership.ucdavis.edu
