  10. What to Expect at Practice • Safety • Code of Conduct

  11. Safety • Athletes must pass the swim test safely, or buy their own PFD • Athletes must have a current physical on file, and make their coaches aware of any physical condition that could affect them while participating. • Athletes must dress appropriately for practices, bring extra clothes on cold days • Athletes must hydrate during the day, and bring their own water to practice every day • Athletes must be safely transported to the boathouse from the school, seatbelts, speed limit, etc. • Athletes must view the safety video • Athletes must check safety launches for lifevests, gas, and an anchor • Coaches will determine before every practice if it is safe to go on the water (temps, waves) • Coaches have emergency contacts on their person • Coaches conduct safety drills on and off the water prior to full practices • Coaches will transport athletes in a safe manner.

  12. Expectations and requirements • All athletes must sign the student “contract” • Athletes must turn in grades as seen fit by coaches, they are STUDENT-athletes, academics is always a priority • Athletes must conduct themselves in a respectful manner to everyone • Athletes must not exceed the absence numbers • 6 excused absences, 2 unexcused absences • If a rower misses more than one day the week of a regatta, their racing priority will be moved down, and they may even not be able to race • Athletes must participate in practice fully to participate in races • Athletes must meet minimum standards to race competently and safely • If athletes do not meet these standards at the coaches discretion they may have limited time on the water. They may be erging at the boathouse, asked to help cox, or other opportunities in being a part of the team (team manager). • Ultimately, not one rower is bigger than the team, and if an athlete is harmful to practice for others, we have to find a way to make the experience better for everyone
