  6. What can get you Off Balance ? The very ones you are called to Love

  7. People

  8. Jesus’ Life is a Picture of Balance

  9. People tried to Unbalance Jesus • Jesus’ brothers said to him, “Leave Galilee and go to Judea, so that your disciples there may see the works you do. No one who wants to become a public figure acts in secret. Since you are doing these things, show yourself to the world.” For even his own brothers did not believe in him. • Therefore Jesus told them, “My time is not yet here; for you any time will do. • John 7:3-5

  10. People get us out of Balance I teach people how to treat me by what I will allow.

  11. Wicked People • My son, if sinners entice thee, consent thou not. • If they say, “Come with us, let us lay wait for blood, let us lurk privily for the innocent without cause: We shall find all precious substance, we shall fill our houses with spoil: Cast in thy lot among us; let us all have one purse.” • Proverbs 12:6

  12. “Strange” Women of Proverbs • 2:16 - To deliver thee from the strange woman, even from the stranger which flatters with her words • 5:3 - For the lips of a strange woman drop as an honeycomb, and her mouth is smoother than oil: • 5:20 - And why wilt thou, my son, be ravished with a strange woman… ? • 6:24 - To keep thee from the evil woman, from the flattery of the tongue of a strange woman. • 7:5 - That they may keep thee from the strange woman, from the stranger which flattereth with her words.

  13. Penalty • But her end is bitter as wormwood, sharp as a two-edged sword. Her feet go down to death • Proverbs 5:4-5

  14. Negative People • The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit. • Proverbs 18:21

  15. Who Throws you off Balance • And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation. • 2 Peter 3:4

  16. Self-Righteous People • Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked: • Revelation 3:17

  17. Unbelieving People • And Caleb stilled the people before Moses, and said, Let us go up at once, and possess it; for we are well able to overcome it. • But the men that went up with him said, We be not able to go up against the people; for they are stronger than we. • And they brought up an evil report of the land • Numbers 13:30-32

  18. Poisoned by Unbelief • And all the congregation lifted up their voice, and cried; and the people wept that night. • And all the children of Israel murmured against Moses and against Aaron: and the whole congregation said unto them, “Would God that we had died in the land of Egypt! or would God we had died in this wilderness!” • Numbers 14:1-2

  19. Charles Spurgeon “Put your foot down where you mean to stand, and let no man move you from the right. “Learn to say, "No," and it will be of more use to you than to be able to read Latin.”
