The intervention is frequently a medication; however can also be a medical device, like a pacemaker or stent, or asymptomatic apparatus, for example, a blood test. • To help doctors understand the effect of a new drug, many people participate in clinical research. People who participate in clinical trials do so freely and of their own will. They are volunteers. In many studies, the volunteers will have a common health condition, such as kidney disease, high blood pressure, or diabetes.
