Project 1: Dictionary Painting • OBJECTIVE: Research the definition, the essential characteristics, real life examples, and non-examples of a selected word from a random dictionary page and use this research to illustrate and paint the word on the dictionary page later. (Re7-7b, RI.7.4) • OBJECTIVE: Compare the map works of Ed Fairburn to historical handmade maps using a Venn diagram. (Pr6-7a, SL.7.2)

Project 2: Book Poetry Sculpture • OBJECTIVE: Create an altered book sculpture based off of a poem created by selecting a random page from a book, selecting key words from at least 4 lines on the page and using the pages from this book as sculpture material that stays contained between the front and back cover of this book that represents the poem. (Cr2-7c, SL.7.5)

  13. Poetry Sketch Activity! • Pick a page • Choose words from at least 4 lines on the page • “accentuate” the words with a box, circle, etc. • Illustrate the poem, on the page • Don’t think too hard! Less than 5 minutes!

  14. Project 3/Expansion: MadLib Light Box • OBJECTIVE: Fill in a “MadLib- Happily Ever After” on an iPad that creates a fictional story that will be used in creating a light box sculpture illustrating their story. (Cr2-7a, W.7.3D)

  29. Sketching/Planning • Sketch of all layers together (practice paper) • Sketch all individual layers • Encourage overlapping/texture • Think of the purpose of each layer
