ASO Address Council • Address Council • 3 representatives per RIR region • Representatives do not represent RIRs directly • AC nominees • Not necessarily an RIR member • All can participate in elections • . . . Not limited to RIR members • The role of the AC will be changing • To meet new challenges • To adapt to the new ICANN structure

  6. ASO Address Council • Continued to observe progress in the establishment of AFRINIC new RIR. • AFRINIC representatives have participated in current ASO activities and in the ICANN reform process

ASO Address Council Other Activities • Establishing standard BoD selection process (to be published shortly for public comment) • Establishing a standard process for nominating representative to NomCom • Discussion ongoing to review RFC 2050 and its current relation to active policy. • Global Mailing list for discussion: rfc2050-wg@arin.net

  8. ASO Address Council • Working on a new strategy to promote international participation • Electronic voting • Workshops and information gathering sessions • Chair has circulated a “Roadmap Document” to the AC for 2003 • Held a workshop in Amsterdam in January

ASO Address Council AC is working with the RIRs on ICANN reform process discussions • Stand ready to facilitate/work with the RIRs and ERC in negotiation for a new MoU in the reform environment • RIRs have asked for formal input • AC has met informally with ICANN ERC • Two AC members’ “principles” document

  10. Survey on Reform • ASO AC Conducted a survey among its member on reform and the relationship between the RIRs and ICANN • The results are from a very small, but representative part of the community • Here is a sample of those results

Reform Survey Part 1 • 100% of those responding said that the reformshould continue to be an ASO • When asked about the role of the ASO • 100% said it would elect ICANN BoD • 100% said it would elect ICANN NomCom • 100% said it should advise ICANN on global addressing issues • 100% said it should coordinate global addressing policy development

  12. Reform Survey Part 2 • Not much agreement on the size of ASO • 50% said not significant issue • 87% said that RIR community should elect either two or three ASO members • 67% said that RIR Boards should elect one member to the ASO • 10% said that the ICANN NomCom should have a role

  13. Reform Survey Part 3 • Agreed to electronic voting • Agreed to the concept of temporary observers

  14. Nomination Committee • ICANN has a Nominations Committee • Nominates people to the ICANN BoD • AC is responsible for one delegate • Election took place in February 2003 • Please to have German Valdez • Started work on NomCom immediately
