Critical needs at WAHS • Academic: • Increase EOC passage rate • Increase HSAP passage rate & proficient/advanced scores • Increase AP scores of 3 -5 • Social: • Social networking Issues – CCSD Directives to employees • Substitute acceptable vocabulary for profanity (students!) • Appropriate dress • Systemic: • Consistent application and enforcement of rules by ALL teachers in EVERY class • Monitoring of Truancy Process & Fidelity to Implementation • Lunch supervision

CCSD Priorities – Achieving excellence…victory is in the classroom • Vision Every child will graduate from CCSD with the critical skills and knowledge necessary to succeed in college and the 21st century global workforce. • CCSD Goals • Elevate the achievement level of ALL students. • Close the achievement gap between groups of students. • Increase the graduation rate.

Priorities for WAHS • Reading, Writing & Math Across the Curriculum • MANDATORY GRADES per Quarter for Each Student • Documented parent contact each quarter - accurate contact information in PowerSchool + actual contact • Textbook check for classes w/ textbooks Quarterly (minimum) • Attendance w/o tardy violations—provide a positive reinforcement!

New on the Horizon • Data Clerk – recommendation for hiring has been completed • Parent Portal for Power School – transparency will translate to taking extra care to enter grades weekly and to be certain that entries are accurate • Sample of 2011-12 student / PS report card will be posted in the mail room and sent to you via e-mail • SACS & HSTW visitation this year!

EOCEP (End of Course Examination Program) • EOC exams are given twice a year • EOC test windows have not been announced, yet • Count 20% of the final average • Subjects: • English 1 • Algebra 1 • Algebra 1 Part 2 • Biology • US History • Students enrolled in an EOC course are required to take the EOC exam • ~¼ of our school report card

HSAP (High School Assessment Program) • Given 3 times a year • Fall • students beyond their second year of high school who need HSAP for graduation requirements • Spring • students in their second year of high school + students who did not pass in the fall • Summer • students who have met all other graduation requirements • ~¼ of our school report card

Iep/504 plans • IEP’s – Case managers are responsible for sending accommodations and information to teachers. • Crystal Addington – Lead Teacher • Connie Dreusicke – Special Ed Dept Chair • 504’s – A list of students who have a 504 plan to you by Monday afternoon. • Danna Cousins • Failure to follow 504 and IEP accommodations constitutes a Level 1 complaint. • District monies are halted until the complaint is resolved!!

  30. Truancy, textbooks, etc. • 2009-2010- 1,853 Cut Class Referrals • 2010-2011- 512 Cut Class Referrals (75% drop) • Were fewer kids cutting class or did we stop writing referrals? Getting the parents involved early and documenting contact provides consistency and clear expectations. Core – carrierittle • The Core Team at WAHS uses the Problem-Solving Model to provide academic and behavioral support through Response to Intervention (RTI) • Functions of the CORE team: • Review Individual student referrals • Analyze school-wide data. • Identify the need and develop academic and behavior supports using RTI model. • Adopt evidence based intervention programs for: • Reading,Writing, Math, and Behavior

Core • CORE Referral forms for individual students can be found on the Wikki or under the RTI/PBIS menu on the Intranet. • The CORE team meets one time a week to monitor the progress of students who are receiving interventions and review/discuss new referrals. • WAHS CORE team members are Karen Bentley, Ryan Cumback, Natalie Kluttz, Carrie Rittle, and Matt Whitehead.

TPTB (CCSD) are watching, so be mindful of your copies. You will be cut off – they are watching weekly. • New employees need to see Debbie to get their copy code and for a quick training on Monday. • To PDF you do not need a password. It will not be sent to your email – see Debbie if you need help. • The copier does not clear out numbers from your previous co-worker – so be careful. • If you copy more than one page – it defaults to front / back.

Bellwork Expectation • Teachers are expected to have a graded bellwork assignment for students at the beginning of each period. • Establish firm guidelines from the beginning • Meaningful and consistent • Help keep students academically engaged from bell to bell • Research shows effective classrooms engage students in academic activity as soon as they come into class. • If students know the expectation is to work from the minute they enter the classroom and are never given the opportunity to get off task, it is much easier to keep students on task. • Reduce hallway distractions • Prepare students for EOC, HSAP, and other testing
