Background of Shantimalika A network of 18 leading national level NGO active from 2003 National Peace conference 2005 , concluded with “Peace Declaration” Active Network Working on Women Peace Security Agenda in Nepal Implementing projects on Peace, Women’s Participation, Gender Equality….. Involved in Evidence based advocacy

How Network Functions ? • 18 active Member Organizations, • Well equipped Secretariat with competent human resource • Culture of shared leadership (yearly rotation basis) • A core committee for smooth function of Secretariat and programs • Provision and practice of Project Management Committee for each specific project • Practicing Evidence Based Advocacy

Shantimalika’s Advocacy Issues • Gender friendly constitution • Women’s meaningful participation in all state mechanisms. • Equal rights on citizenship, GBVs, Relief Package for Conflict Affected communities. • Transitional Justice (timely formation gender-friendly TRC). • Advocacy for the Establishment and effective functioning of Local Peace Committees • Formulation and Effective Implementation of NAP of UNSCR 1325&1820

Communication for Advocacy NAP on UNSCR 1325 & 1820, LPC, TRC, Equal Citizenship Right, Women’s Political Participation Justice & Relief for Conflict Affected Network Member Equal Citizenship Right Core Committee Participation of women in Local Peace Building Initiative National Forum Women’ Meaningful Participation in decision Making District Peace Centers

  8. Success stories MOPR revised TOR of LPC ( provision of 33 percent women participation) Facilitation in inactivation and extension of LPCs in all 75 districts. National Youth Policy 2067 Orientation to The District Coordination Committees (DCC) on NAP implementation in 31 SM working districts. Supreme Court decision on Citizenship (Provision on Providing Citizenship from Mother’s Name). Increased participation and awareness of Women on Gender Equality and Peace Initiatives.

  9. Continued • Obtained Commitments from Senior Political Leaders for formation of gender friendly state mechanism. • Blanket Amnesty has become matter of high concern for formation of TRC. • SM developed its linkage with community level Groups of PVSE (347), Peace Centers in four Districts.

Lesson Learned • Frequent and timely information sharing of contemporary political affairs with community is essential • For Sustainable Peace addressing crosscutting issues of Peace (Security, Development, Education, Health…..) • Right Based Advocacy Initiative & livelihood components must go simultaneously. • Partnership with Government, linkage building with grass roots and National level policy is key for accomplishing goal of SM.

Way forward SM Continuous/Regular follow up of issues raised by SM Pressure to Government, Policy Maker for effective implementation of commitment and existing laws Continuation of Initiatives for sustaining working relation with Gov, likeminded CSOs and Community Continue linkage and networking with district and local structure
