  3. Αγαπητοí αγαπϖμεν αλληλονς Let Christ Be Lord May 11, 2014

  4. Christ is Lord If you declare with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. Romans 10:9 NIV Dictionary Definition of “Lord” : someone who has authority, control, or power over others. Democracy: “Demo”=>common people; rules

  5. Meaning of Lord • In the Old Testament, the English word LORD is often used to substitute for the word Jehovah and/or Adonai in Hebrew • Adon means someone who has absolute control over a person or something, like a master over a slave, a king over his subject or a husband over his wife. Adonai is the plural form. • The Jews think God’s name is so holy and they should not use it in vain. So, when they saw Jehovah in the Scripture, they will read “Adonai” instead • The word Lord in Greek in New Testament is usually the word kúrios, χνριος,which takes the same meaning as adonai.

  6. Meaning of Lord • When Jesus is Lord, He IS the master and tells us • What we should do with our life • How we should live • Where to serve Him • He is more than a President or a CEO • Not just a friend comes to us when we have a need and calls on Him It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery. Galatians 5:1

  7. Lessons from David Episode I – David and King Saul Context: I Samuel 24:1-22, 26:1-25 6And he said to his men, “The LORD forbid that I should do this thing to my master, the LORD’s anointed, to stretch out my hand against him, seeing he is the anointed of the LORD.” 7So David restrained his servants with these words, and did not allow them to rise against Saul. And Saul got up from the cave and went on his way.I Samuel 24:6-7 NKJV David __________God and _________________ instead of _____________________________ Trusted His Timing Taking things into his own hand

  8. Lessons from David Episode II – David and The Messengers Context: II Samuel 1:1-16, 4:1-12 9bAs the LORDlives, who has redeemed my life from all adversity, 10 when someone told me, saying, ‘Look, Saul is dead,’ thinking to have brought good news, I arrested him and had him executed in Ziklag – the one thought I would give him a reward for his news. 11How much more, when wicked men have killed a righteous person in his own bed? Therefore, shall I not require his blood at your hand and remove you from the earth?II Samuel 4:9b-11 NKJV David __________ everything according to God’s __________instead of ______________________ Valued Standard What is good for him

  9. Lessons from David Episode III – David and His Sin Context: II Samuel 11:1-12:23 22And he said, “While the child was alive, I fasted and wept; for I said, ‘Who can tell whether the LORD will be gracious to me, that the child may live?’ 23But now he is dead; why should I fast? Can I bring him back again? I shall go to him, but he shall not return to me.”II Samuel 12:22-23 NKJV David __________ God’s __________even when ______________________ Accepted judgment It went against his prayer

  10. Lessons from David Faith says not, “I see that it is good for me, so God must have sent it,” but “God sent it, and so it must be good for me.” Faith, walking in the dark with God, only prays Him to clasp its hand more closely. Phillips Brooks

  11. Lessons for Us • If God is Lord, we will trust and wait on His timing instead of taking things into our own hands. • If God is Lord, we will always value things according to His standards instead of what is good or convenient for us. • If God is Lord, we will accept His decision even when it went against our most fervent prayers.

  12. Lessons for Us We demonstrate the Lordship of Christ in our life not with just what we say or believe but with actions in living our life and serving in our church & community.
