  1. NWEA & Des Carte Aligning Student Data for Intentional Instruction

  2. Using Des Carte to Differentiate, and Drive Instruction NWEA-My experience & how to meet the needs of all learnersLegacy-The importance and the emphasis= pros and cons

  3. NWEA & Des CarteWhat’s the big deal? WHY Align? • RIT bands from NWEA Testing provides information of specific skills • RIT ranges allow you to look at strengths of a student as well as areas where they need additional support • Aligning allows you to see what skills are already mastered and what direction to go instructionally • When aligning the Des Carte data to Common Core, you are covering all your bases! 

  4. Choose the RIT range you want to focus on RIT RANGE READING RIT SCORE Percentiles?

  5. Where we want Ben to be

  6. Des Carte • Des Carte is a collection of all of the skills tested within each RIT band • It is broken down into 3 categories: • Skills and concepts to enhance • Skills and concepts to develop • Skills and concepts to introduce Each category will give you specific skills needed to move to higher score in that range

  7. 3rd grade common core We can use the enhance and develop columns to figure out which direction to go This is grade level and where we want Ben to be

  8. Student Goal Setting Worksheet from NWEA • Provides information by strand for math and reading, and language. • You can use these to create workshop groups, or use to group for WTR • Look at actual goal setting worksheet https://reports.nwea.org/

  9. Check it out! • Take about 5 minutes… • Find a student • Find a RIT band to explore • Find RIT band in Des Carte to view objectives Align to common core and/or develop lessons, mini lessons, workshops.

  10. Blooms Taxonomy & Rigor

  11. What is Rigor? RIGOR MOTIVATION ENGAGEMENT Accelerating and adjusting student learning, by directly using Blooms Taxonomy questioning.

  12. 3 Components of Rigor • Each student is expected to learn at high levels. (teacher language, increase expectations) • Each student is supported to learn at high levels. (graphic organizers, scaffolding, rubrics) • Each student demonstrates learning at a high level. (using Blooms )

  13. Using Blooms to bring alive objectives and Learning TargetsIncreasing Rigor and pushing your students to higher levels of thinking • Knowledge- Remember previously learned information. • Comprehension- Demonstrate an understanding of the facts. • Application- Apply knowledge to actual situations. • Analysis- Break down objects or ideas into simpler parts and find evidence to support generalizations. • Synthesis- Compile component ideas into a new whole or propose alternative solutions. • Evaluation- Make and defend judgments based on internal evidence or external criteria

  14. Turning Learning Targets into “I can” statements • After choosing objectives from Des Carte and/or Common Core use the Blooms wheel to develop “I Can” statements for daily lessons. • You will find that much of Des Carte already uses Blooms, however, using different verbs increases Rigor for students.

  15. Des Carte I Can Statement Des Carte-Describe comparisons made in informational text • I can Give examples of comparisons made in informational text • I can Locate comparisons made in informational text • I can Predict comparisons made informational text • I can Justify comparisons made in informational text • I can Explain comparisons made in informational text • I can Argue comparisons made in informational text

  16. That’s a Wrap! Questions? Hope this was helpful  Please feel free to let me know if I can help you in any way!
