on 10th December 2011,a Saudi Arabian went over land to the south pole for the first time Mustafa Omar and Ibrahim were the first Saudi at the south pole when they flew there in 1989. Antarctica is one of the hardest places in the world for exploration because of dangers like the wind and the cold. Businessman waleed zahid and his sons, Haytham and Mohammad, decided to take the challenge of skiing to the south pole.

Months of training and

preparation began they had to get lots of equipment and information. The cold weather is not the only problem at the south pole. The sun for example, shines from October to February-there is no night So they had to be careful not to get burned. They had to train very hard because the south pole is a difficult location for skiing. It is 2,835m high, which makes it hard to breathe.

In December they started the journey the main difficulty was the weather the temperatu was below -30c, and there were strong winds and storms. On some days, the storms meant they could not continue. The needed all their determination to wait for the storms to stop. They wanted to get there for waleed’S 60TH birthday on 7th December, but it took three days longet.

Finally, they saw the south pole from 15km away. They were very tired. when they got there, they had a family celebration. The pain was over, they showed incredible bravery, and their achievement was truly great.
