  3. Hip Hop music • Hip hop music is a musical genre which developed alongside hip hop culture, and is commonly based on concepts of loop, rapping, freestyle, DJing, scratching, sampling and beat boxing. • The music is used to express concerns of political, social, and personal issues. • Hip hop began in the Bronx in New York City in the 1970s, primarily among African Americans, with some Jamaican immigrant influence. • The term rap is often used synonymously with hip hop, however, the latter denotes the practices of an entire subculture

  4. Rap the culture • Yes rap is a part of hip hop but it is not necessarily the same. • Rap as a culture grew along side hip hop and branched off into such genres such as Gangster Rap

  5. Rapping • Rapping, also referred to as MCing or emceeing, is a vocal style in which the artist speaks lyrically, in rhyme and verse, generally to an instrumental or synthesized beat. • Rappers may write, memorize, or improvise their lyrics and perform their works a cappella or to a beat.

  7. Hip hop fusions • When hip hop collides with other genres and other cultures it makes a huge impact. For example… -hip hop and rock -hip hop and R&B -hip hop and house

  8. Hip Hop and rock • The two big cultures colliding together impacted every race and age. It also started a few trends and made a lot of musicians expand there range.

  9. Hip hop and R&B • R&B, just like rap) was brought aside hip hop even though R&B is older • When the two come together its always a hit.

  10. House • House is a style of electronic dance music. It was initially popularized in mid-1980s, catering to the African-American and Latino American, French and gay communities. Originated in Chicago, then migrated New York City, New Jersey, Detroit and Miami. House is strongly influenced by elements of soul, funk, and infused varieties of disco.

  11. Hip hop and House • The fusion of hip hop and house soon created Club Music. • it was created in Baltimore, Maryland in the early 1990s by pioneers Scottie B., Frank Ski, Big Tony, and DJ Spen • Club music is the hottest thing to play when at a party.

  12. The Cipher • Freestyle rap commonly refers to raplyrics which are improvised through a capella or with instrumental beats, i.e. performed with few or no previously composed lyrics, off the top of the head. It is similar to other improvisational music such as rock where there is a lead guitarist acting as the improviser and the backup guitarist providing the beat. • Originally, in Old School Hip-Hop, the term ‘freestyle’ referred to a pre-written rap verse that was not on any particular subject matter and was just written for the purpose of demonstrating skill[6]. The term is still occasionally used in this way, though the majority of today’s artists use it to mean improvised rapping
