  2. When started and when finished the American Civil War: • The American Civil War started on 12 April 1861. • This war finally ended on 9 April 1865.

Background: • After the disputed election of 1876 resulted in the end of Reconstruction, Whites in the South regained political control of the region, after mounting intimidation and violence in the elections. Systematic disfranchisement of African Americans took place in Southern states from 1890 to 1908 and lasted until national civil rights legislation was passed in the mid-1960s. For more than 60 years, for example, blacks in the South were not able to elect anyone to represent their interests in Congress or local government.

  4. Causes of the war: • Economic and social differences between the North and the South. • States versus federal rights. • The fight between Slave and Non-Slave State Proponents. • Growth of the Abolition Movement. • The election of Abraham lincoln.

  5. Presidents: • Abraham Lincoln was the leader of the north , also called ¨The Union¨. • Jefferson Davis was the leader of the south , also called ¨The Confederacy¨.
