  1. Status and Plans for the Measurement of the Top Quark Production Cross Section in the Leptons plus Jets Channel Ken Johns, Venkat Kaushik, Xiaowen Lei (U. Arizona)

Status • Developed an ARA based framework for analyzing ESD, AOD, D2PD OR D3PD • Add some details • Used 10 TeV Data and Monte Carlo samples to estimate the uncertainty of the top quark cross section using a top likelihood method • Participated in top group event by event validation excercises • Show a few results from Xiaowen • Streamlined machinery for calculating and fitting mock data with top likelihood

  3. Status • Helping to validate D2PD production • Venkat slides • Analyzing jet and MET performance using December 2009 data

Plans • Optimize top likelihood for 7 TeV data • Monte Carlo samples not yet available • Variable optimization in progress including bjet tagging • Machinery for QCD background estimate being built • Begin searching for a top signal from Day 1 • Data samples will be small so ARA can be used before D2PD and D3PD samples are assembled • Continue studies of jet and MET performance
