  1. The Provision of a Promotion and Co-ordination Service for the Future Delivery of Higher Apprenticeship – An LLN Initiated Service Delivered in Partnership with UVAC

  2. The Background • Strong alliance between LLN National Forum and UVAC • This will support the future development and sustainability of the work  of the LLNs   • Resulted in LLNs having membership of the UVAC Board ensuring strategic and practical alliance

  3. Developing Higher Apprenticeships in England:Policy Paper • Strong correlation between this paper and the recommendations from UVAC's report Progression from Vocational and Applied Learning to Higher Education in England   • The paper had very positive responses. Amongst them from Construction Skills • Resulting in a plan to develop a framework for apprenticeships which includes a Foundation Degree

Developing Higher Apprenticeships in England:Policy Paper (cont’d) • The outcome will be a jointly developed framework/Foundation Degree by several universities but validated separately • Development group will comprise: Universities, employers Colleges, Construction Skills, LLNs and coordinated by UVAC • Development is financed by the LLNs and will completed by July 2011 • The model is transferable to other sectors

Programme Objectives • Champion and promote the concept and benefits of Higher Apprenticeships • Support the development of Higher Apprenticeships • Advise on how Higher Apprenticeship can be used to support the progression of Apprentices to higher level learning programmes • Support through HEI partners the validation of the content of Higher Apprenticeships

Programme Objectives (cont.) • Advise and support partners delivering Higher Apprenticeships on IAG, credit, APEL, curriculum development, recognition of work-based learning and funding • Support LLNs and other partners develop specific Information, Advice and Guidance and mentoring support for apprentices and employers re Higher Apprenticeship • To support partners contribute to the overall development of Higher Apprenticeship
