  1. Research Institute of the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Cientificas • Main activities devoted to Astrophysics and Space Sciences • Research areas are: • Active Galactic Nuclei, starburst galaxies and group of galaxies • Galactic structure and stellar clusters • Planetary atmospheres • Space exploration • Stellar pulsation and evolution • Very large baseline and interferometry (VLBI) • More than 100 persons distributed in 4 departments and 1 section for Scientific Instrumentation Development among others Instituto de Astrofísica de Andalucía – C.S.I.C

  2. TECHNICAL AND SCIENTIFIC BACKGROUND • PLANETARY ATMOSPHERES • Airglow of the Earth´s atmosphere • Design and construction of several rockets payloads consisting of two-four channel photometers FOCCA I and II, FOCCA-S (four infrared photometers) and new payloads in FEIROX and FEIROH • Participation in the EURD instrument to study diffuse EUV radiation on board MINISAT-01 • Atmospheric composition of terrestrial planets and Titan • Development of theoretical models of the Earth atmosphere (mesosphere and lower thermosphere) composition and for the middle and upper atmospheres of Mars and Titan • Participation in the Planetary Fourier Spectrometer (PFS) for MARS 94/96.Design of the central control unit for the management of data processes • A similar instrument is under construction for Mars Express Mission of ESA Instituto de Astrofísica de Andalucía – C.S.I.C

  3. TECHNICAL AND SCIENTIFIC BACKGROUND II • PLANETARY ATMOSPHERES • Atmospheric composition of terrestrial planets and Titan • Participation in the CASSINI-HUYGENS mission to Saturn (NASA-ESA). In the Huygens Atmospheric Structure Instrument (HASI) IAA provided the analogue electronics of the Permitivity, Waves and Altimetry (PWA). • Balloon Campaign Comas Sola for the test of the HASI instrument • Infrared atmospheric emissions in the terrestrial planets • Non-LTE radiative transfer models have been developed and have been applied to the interpretation of measurements in ATMOS and ISAMS missions • Participation in the definition of the scientific objectives of the MIPAS instrument (ENVISAT) through the Science Advisory Group • Other participations in: SABER (NASA Mission TIMED), ASI/MET (Mars Pathfinder) and PMIRR (Mars Climate Orbiter) Instituto de Astrofísica de Andalucía – C.S.I.C

  4. TECHNICAL AND SCIENTIFIC BACKGROUND III • ASTROPHYSICS • Scientific collaborations: • ISO - ESA • Spectrum X-Gamma – Russian Mission • INTEGRAL – ESA • COROT –The Ground Segment is under the Spanish responsibility Instituto de Astrofísica de Andalucía – C.S.I.C

  5. OSIRIS (Optical, Spectroscopic and Infrared Remote Imaging System) Comprises two high resolution cameras that will be uses in the fly-by phase for orbital observations of the nucleus of the comet. The cameras contain a selection of optical filters for obtaining mineralogical data and recording surface activity Unidad de Desarrollo Instrumental - Instituto de Astrofísica de Andalucía

  6. Mechanism Controller Board – OSIRIS - ROSETTA Performances: Digital circuits for communications with the DPU, instrument housekeeping and mechanism control Unidad de Desarrollo Instrumental - Instituto de Astrofísica de Andalucía

  7. GIADA (Grain Impact Analyser and Dust Accumulator) To study the mechanical properties of dust close to the comet nucleus. Three types of sensors will measure the mass, velocity, momentum and flux of the dust particles Unidad de Desarrollo Instrumental - Instituto de Astrofísica de Andalucía

  8. Giada2 – GIADA - ROSETTA Performances: Data acquisition from the different sensors, data pre-processing and processing, S/C interfaces, Data Conversion and Power Supply, Housekeeping of the instrument Unidad de Desarrollo Instrumental - Instituto de Astrofísica de Andalucía
