The Research & Documentation Centre (RDC) aims to identify, collect, and preserve Eritrean historical records, promoting awareness of the value of documentation within society. The RDC offers training in records and archives management and ensures public access to its extensive archival holdings. Spanning from the Italian period to post-independence records, the RDC houses various manuscripts, religious parchments, and artifacts. Advanced digitization and microfilming processes are employed to safeguard these invaluable resources for future generations.

2. Digitisation • The audio studio transfers audiocassettes and reel-to-reel into recommended archival digital Minidisks. • The video studio transfers analogue VHS, Hi-8, Betacam, Betamax, and U-matic records into recommended archival Digital Betacam formats.

3. MicrofilmingWritten Documents • Takes pictures of old documents and preserves them in microfilm formats.
4. Scanning • The RDC scans microfilmed records for friendly use purposes.
