SEMESTER-I AR 101ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN Objectives: • To make the students familiar with the Mental and Visual 3D • perception as Architectural Design is the core subject • Methodology: • Orientation about the profession with the help of Audio/Video • presentations. • Studio lectures. • Individual/ Group studio exercises. S.No. CONTENTS • Elements of Design : • It will include understanding role of the following basic elements • like Point, Lines, Planes, Patterns, Shapes, Forms, Spaces, Color, • Texture. 1. • Principles of Design : • It will include understanding and using basic principles like Repetition, Rhythm, Symmetry, Unity, Harmony, Balance , contrast. 2. Human dimensions : Anthropometrics in design including provisions for the physically challenged. Idea of human scale and proportion Study of human dimensions and proportions followed by designing of spaces with furniture layout. 3. Suggested Readings: Francis D.K.   2. Guidelines for the teachers: • The assignments shall consist of drawing , composing & pasting work along • with models. • Drawing and Model Making skills will be taught along with the subject to • improve the abilities to understand space and form.

SEMESTER-III AR 201 ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN Objectives:- • To develop the design of small buildings with respect to site, landscape, • climate and Socio-economic conditions in urban context.& the application • of anthropometrics. • Methodology:- • Site Analysis with the help of Audio/Video presentations. • Studio lectures. • Individual/ Group studio exercises leading to design development S.No. CONTENTS Design of a small House considering site orientation, prevailing wind direction and the use of local building materials Integration of form & function 1. • Design of public place like community centre , post office, bank, restaurant , etc. 2. Note: • Design should be urban in context. • Method of construction includes Data collection and analysis • Site conditions, climatic conditions, Socio-economic conditions, user • requirements, Communication, Transportation. Guideline for the teachers : • Case study and library study should be conducted as and when required. • Provision for physically challenged persons should be incorporated in design • solutions. • Exercise to emphasis the significance of the user in the process of design.
