Class of 2017 • Classes are divided into two semesters • 1st Semester August – December • 2nd Semester January - May • A student will take 6 classes each semester • Each semester course is worth .5 units of credit per class • Credit is issued at the end of each semester (December & May) • Students must earn 23 units to graduate

  7. Requirements for 2017 Graduates • 4 Units of English • 4 Units of Math • 4 Units of Science • 3 Units of Social Studies • 1 Unit of Health (.5) and Personal Fitness (.5) • 3 Required Electives (Foreign Language, Fine Arts and/or Technical classes) • 4 Miscellaneous Electives • 23 Total Units

Absences • Excuse notes (parent/guardian, doctor, etc.) will not be accepted unless received in the attendance office within FIVE school days after returning to school • At 7 or more absences and a passing grade , the student must apply for an Attendance Waiver. The request must be reviewed by the Attendance Committee and approved by the principal before credit is awarded • Excused, unexcused and out-of-school suspension absences are considered when the Attendance Committee reviews the request for a Waiver Page 7 in the Sequoyah Student Agenda

  9. Zero Credit Credit will NOT be issued if: • A student has 7 or more absences per semester • Absences are counted in each class separately • A student does not pass the class with a grade of 70 or higher • A student does not take the required End of Course Test

  10. To be Placed in a 10th Grade Homeroom • A student must earn at least 5total units of credit by the end of their freshman year. • Three of these units must be in the following academic areas: 1 unit of English 1 unit of Math 1 unit of Science

  12. Summer School • Recover 1 Credit (Maximum) • Three to Four weeks in June • 8:00 until 4:00 Monday – Friday • $200.00 per half unit • Retake class the next year in school • No cost involved • May delay graduation Please speak with your counselor regarding any recovery options

  15. EOCT Information • These rules apply to students entering 9th grade for the first time during the 2011-2012 school year, and beyond…. • An EOCT counts for 20% of the FINAL COURSE GRADE Passing the required course is necessary for graduation.

  16. Beyond 2017 • 4 year colleges will require a minimum of two years of the same foreign language • Technical Colleges will not require a foreign language

HOPE Requirements HOPE Scholarship • Students must have a 3.0 GPA graduating from an eligible high school. • Students must maintain a 3.0 GPA in college to keep HOPE. • For the academic year starting Fall 2013, the HOPE amount is capped at 90 percent of the current tuition rate (2012-2013) at USG institutions. • http://www.gsfc.org/main/publishing/pdf/2012/hope_award_amounts.pdf

Zell Miller Scholarship • Student must have a 3.7 GPA graduating from an eligible high school. • Students must have a combined 1200 SAT score (critical reading/ math only) or a 26 Composite ACT score. These test scores must come from a single test sitting. • Students must maintain a 3.3 GPA in college to keep the Zell Miller scholarship. A valedictorian and salutatorian from each high school will be eligible to receive the Zell Miller Scholarship without consideration of the GPA or ACT/SAT requirements. Zell Miller Scholarship will cover tuition at 100% for an academic year. Students who drop below the college 3.3 GPA can earn Regular HOPE if their GPA remains at 3.0 or above.

HOPE Rigor Requirement • Beginning with the graduating class of 2015, students must pass 2 courses from the following types of courses: • Advanced Math • Advanced Science • Advanced Placement (AP) in core subjects • Core Subjects taken at USG Institution • Advanced Foreign Language • Class of 2016 must pass 3 courses • Class of 2017 must pass 4 courses

  21. HOPE Grant • HOPE Grant is for students seeking a technical certificate or diploma • HOPE Grant pays for a percentage of tuition and fees for students.
