  2. Who is St. Patrick? Saint Patrick was the patron saint of Ireland and Nigeria, he was born in a village in Wales. When he was 16 years old he was captured and became a slave. Saint Patrick came from a Christian family. He was the son of Calpornius, who was a deacon. He brought Christianity to Ireland. He changed many pagans to Christianity.

  3. What does the four leaf clover symbolize? The four leaf clover (Oxalis) symbolizes God the Father, Son of God – Jesus, the Holy Spirit. It is also known as the Trinity.

  4. Why does everyone wear green on this day? Green is one of the colors in Ireland’s tri-color flag, and it has been used in the flags of several Irish revolutionary groups throughout history. Ireland is the “Emerald Isle,” so named for its lush green landscape. Green is also the color of spring, the shamrock, and the Chicago River, which the Midwestern city has dyed green on St. Patrick’s Day for the past 40-odd years.

  5. How is St. Patricks celebrated? By grand parades, community feasts, charity shows and the mass.
