Session One- Accountability and leadership: Policy frameworks Information provision on GF allocations- AUC and GF to work on the modalities of ensuring that MPs receive information on Global Fund allocation by Country to help with monitoring. Sharing of AU policy frameworks, commitments and decisions to support parliamentary function in ratification processes. AUC, NEPAD and PAP Secretariat to work together to assist parliamentarians in the ratification and domestication of AU policy frameworks and decisions. Collaboration between civil society and the parliamentarians in the promotion of accountability on continental commitments . Parliamentarians to advocate for pediatric HIV formulations.
Session two: Capacity building & advocacy: Policy frameworks 1. AUC, NEPAD and partners to continue to build the capacity of countries working on local manufacturing of drugs. 2. Parliamentarians to advocate for research and development and social support to get the governments to translate commitments into action. 3. Parliamentarians to advocate for the strengthening of nascent regulatory systems to ensure access to affordable and quality assured drugs. 4. Traditional medicine needs to be codified and subjected to research to ensure that they meet established standards.
Session two: Capacity building & advocacy: Policy frameworks 5. AU PAIPO framework to be reviewed to ensure that it addresses the social and health issues related to intellectual property rights and patents. 6. Parliamentarians to continue to work in reviewing the laws and policies that affect access to services for key populations. 7. Regional parliaments to work on frameworks that ensure access to services especially ARVs for migrant populations. 8. Parliamentarians to work on ensuring that Ministers responsible for WTO TRIPS consult broadly on the key issues for negotiation to ensure that they are adequately prepared for the negotiations.
Session two: Capacity building & advocacy: Policy frameworks 5. Develop the capacity of media institutions to promote media advocacy on AU policy frameworks and commitments.
