Communication as part of the programming strategy • Communication of the programs is Public relations of the GCYF • Clear statements, no oversimplification • Communication is essential for successful education • Our main philosophy: everybody has a talent • Communicate a positive picture of young people

  3. CAMP4US – the summer campswith DHL • Young people from all over Germany participate in the 6 CAMP4US summer camps • At CAMP4US disadvantaged youth do projects as a team • Journalists work together with them to develop key skills in communication

  4. One of top events: the press tour with a government minister in a camp. Empowerment in CAMP4US

  5. Think Big Media Collegewith Telefónica O2 • Media College gives young people a voice • Celebrity support by German rapper Kool Savas • Young participants develop their own videos for a song he wrote exclusively for Media College

  6. Voicing and visibility: Young people tell their own stories and visions. Videos are published on youtube. Voicing in Media College

  7. Empowering Girls!with NIKE • We motivate girls to experience sports • Being an active part of a sports team strengthens self-esteem and encourages participation and initiative • Learning in workshops how to take life into own hands is an important part of the program

  8. Make success visible Girls tell their concerns, present their projects in public, celebrate their success. We document and spread these projects in public.

  9. Media coverage of the GCYF • Between January and December 2009 we count 880 articles/reports in newspapers, magazines and TV for all 40 programs together • All of them are positive or in a neutral tone about youth
