Girls VS. Boys • Though we teach the same technique for both girls and boys, they need different guidance. • Exception for every rule.
Similarities, but Different • Positive reinforcement • Encouragement • Understanding • Motivation • Physical
Holding the Discus • Smaller hands • May have to move to the front of the discus. • Index and middle finger closer together. • Thumb pressure is key.
Lefties • Make conscious effort to go through correct motions. • Use the correct terminology for your left handed athletes.
360 Spins • We do 360 spins every day. • Have students turn both directions. • Put all of weight on turning foot. • Slow and Controlled
360 spins with Discus in Hand • Have athletes spin both directions. • Have them continually raise their arm to get them comfortable with it
Back half spins • Start in the back of the ring • Swing foot to middle • Stop and evaluate the beginning.
Back half spins • After there is a comfort level in doing half spins then swing foot back to starting position.
Three Touch Drill • Works on getting foot to swing out. • Allows for athletes to get more time in the back of the ring. • Helps athlete to hit the middle of the ring.
