COLLEGE ADMISSIONS ARIZONA STATE UNIVERSITY • Rank in the top 25% of your class OR • Have a 3.0 GPA or better in the 16 core coursesOR • Score a 22 on the ACT or 1120 on the SAT • ASU has separate application for the Barrett Honor College-Priority Deadline date is November 1st! You are not required to be admitted prior to this application but you must have already applied to undergraduate admissions.

  7. COLLEGE ADMISSIONS NORTHERN ARIZONA UNIVERSITY • Have a 3.0 GPA or better in the 16 core coursesand have no deficiencies • NAU has separate application for their Honors College. Must have a core gpa of 3.0 or higher and be admitted to undergraduate admissions before applying. • Honors College priority deadline date is February 1st! PLEASE CHECK THEIR WEBSITE FOR OPTIONAL ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS.

COLLEGE ADMISSIONS UNIVERSITY OF ARIZONA For assured admission, an applicant must: • Rank in the top 25% overall grade point average or • Have no course deficiencies as prescribed by the Arizona Board of Regents and have an unweighted core GPA of 3.0 or higher. • All other students are reviewed through their comprehensive review process which includes test scores, GPA, class rank, strength of curriculum and more. • Complete a supplemental Honors-specific application for The Honors College.

Each school may be different. • When to apply – Check each schools’ website – these vary significantly! • Common Application and/or Coalition for Access, Affordability, and Success HAVE AN INSTATE BACKUP PLAN!!

  14. Don’t forget…. • Many College Fairs – September-October. During this travel time, college reps from out of town visit Hamilton – Students should Sign up! These reps are reading the Arizona college applications! • Visit the Campus, each one has a different personality and different characteristics. • Keep applying for scholarships – lack of finances is the #1 reason why students decide not to attend their preferred college.

DECIDING WHERE TO APPLY Final list should include a combination of: “Reach” schools – dream schools where admission is “iffy” or have admit rates between 5-20%. “Possible” schools – you closely meet the expectations in the schools profile, but competition for spaces can still be tight. “Probably/likely admit” – Chances for admissions are very strong. “Financial safety” – a place that parents can afford if your financial aid package is not strong at other schools, or if your financial situation changes at home due to the economy, unemployment, etc.

  17. COLLEGE ENTRANCE EXAMS • SAT Reasoning Test • SAT Subject Tests • ACT • Everyone attending ASU must take a Math Placement Test – to be given by the University – computer based. • Fee waivers available – if on Free & Reduced Lunch

SCHOLARSHIPS • Begin Early! • Applications available on the Career Center website at hamiltonhuskies.com • Other Scholarship databases to check out are listed on the website • College Website • Most scholarships are Stackable • Financial Need vs. Financial Need according to FAFSA • Applying for scholarships can take up a lot of time! Don’t wait until 2nd semester – many are expired by then.

Scholarships - Qualifications • Community Service • Leadership • GPA • Overcame Obstacles • First Generation (neither parent has 4 year degree) • Ethnicity • College Major • Dependents of Military • Grade Level CHECK OUT ASU OBAMA SCHOLARS PROGRAM (EARLY DEADLINE)! CHECK OUT U OF A ASSURANCE PROGRAM!

  21. FEDERAL FINANCIAL AID • Apply AFTER October 1st senior year. If you apply before that, it will be discarded. Update annually. • Check the boxes that you are “interested” in Student Loans/Parent Loan • Financial Aid Night – Tuesday, October 22nd- 6:00pm-8:30pm Chandler Center for the Arts PRESENTED BY A DIRECTOR OF FINANCIAL AID • Free FAFSA Help Sessions at Hamilton High School – Nov. 5th More details coming soon.

  22. A few things to Remember…. • Do not PAY anyone to help you with scholarships, FAFSA or college applications. • Give teachers 2 weeks notice for Letter of Recommendations! Pick up the letter of recommendation form in the Career Center or on the CC website. • Students must order all transcripts through Parchment.com this year. First 5 are free, after that it will be a cost of approximately $8.50/each. PLEASE NOTE Final transcripts will need to be ordered – do this BEFORE graduation! As of August 1st you are no longer a “graduate” but an Alumn and there will be a fee at that point. • Remember – it is up to your student to WATCH DEADLINE DATES!

  23. GRADUATION Jostens will be on campus August 29th to discuss graduation ordering.  Seniors must have their pictures taken by Prestigeno later than August 10th to be included in the senior section of the yearbook. Seniors who did not go to the photography studio have been scheduled to have their pictures on campus this week. You are not obligated to purchase pictures. Graduation - May 28th@ ASU Wells Fargo Arena 2:30 pm.

  24. Graduation Honors Cum Laude - meaning "with praise". To qualify a student must achieve a 3.75 - 4.24 weighted grade point average. Magna Cum Laude - meaning "with great praise".  To qualify a student must achieve a 4.25 - 4.49 weighted grade point average. Summa Cum Laude - meaning "with the highest praise".  To qualify a student must achieve a 4.5 - 5.0 weighted grade point average.
