  1. Probability Learning Objectives: ~ To discuss how likely events are to happen. ~ To use mathematical vocabulary to describe the probability of events happening.

  2. What is probability? • How likely is something going to happen? • What are the chances of an event happening?

  3. Mathematical Vocabulary • We use the following words to describe the likelihood or chance of something happening: • IMPOSSIBLE(It will never happen!!) • UNLIKELY(It may happen but probably won’t) • LIKELY(It may happen and probably will) • CERTAIN(It will definitely happen)

  4. How likely are these events to happen? • You will go to a comprehensive school in September. • You will drink something today. • You will see the Queen on your way home.

  5. Task: • You will be given some cards with events on them. • You have to sort the cards into 4 groups. • The chances of the events happening could be ‘impossible’, ‘unlikely’, ‘likely’ or ‘certain’. • Work with your group to decide which event is which!!
