  2. Objectives • Understand how SPARK concepts and methods can be woven into university classes • Motivate you to use SPARK as a required or recommended resource • Support your efforts with free course materials (CD) and training (Institute)

  3. Why SPARK Text? • Student time is limited • Works well with majors and generalists • Students are not curriculum writers • Provides foundation of good content and instruction • Research-based; works and lasts • Widely disseminated and extensive support system

  4. Sample Course Format • 10 sessions of 3 hours each: L&Lab • 2 school observations • 2 classes are peer “Teach Days” • 2 papers – Ind. and group • Portfolio • 1 quiz and a final examination • Lab experiences are themed

Themes • Building a Positive Learning Environment • Disguising Fitness & Differentiating Learning • Strategies to Increase MVPA • Wonderful World of Dance • High Activity Skills Progression • Modifying Traditional Sports • Promoting Activity Away from School Note: Two days are Teach Days, and one they present their CSH projects

  6. SPARK PE Classes • SPARK PE classes are 30+ min. • Consist of 2 segments: -Focus on Fitness (15 min.) -Spotlight on Skills (15 min.) • Active warm-up and cool-down Note: Longer sessions begin with an ASAP (Active Soon as Possible)
