  2. Standards Bill Standards Legislation would set minimum energy efficiency standards on ten products: 1. Torchiere Lamps 2. Digital Set-Top Boxes 3. Ceiling Fans 4. Commercial Unit Heaters 5. Exit Signs 6. Traffic Signals 7. Commercial Refrigerator/Freezers 8. Large Packaged Air Conditioners >240,000 Btu/hr 9. Low-Voltage Dry Type Transformers 10. Commercial Clothes Washers

  3. Carbon Reductions Electricity consumption savings due to enacting energy efficiency standards legislation will reduce annual carbon emissions by: 34,000 tons by 2020

  5. Current Status • Last Year: Legislation languished in committee. • Reasons: • Concerns about cross-border effects • Lack of Time to Seriously Discuss Concerns • This Year: Legislation will be reintroduced

  6. Regional Effort • Northeast Energy Efficiency Standards Project is a cooperative effort between NEEP, State PIRGS, Environment-Northeast and Natural Resources Defense Council. • Legislation has been introduced into 9 states (one more on the way) • Maryland legislature has already passed a similar standards bill • Standards bill passed by State Senate in Connecticut. Held up in House of Representatives .

Status in Other Northeast States Connecticut: Passed State Senate; Legislation will be reintroduced next session Maine: Legislation continued to next session in January Maryland: Passed both Houses but vetoed; Veto override will be considered in January Massachusetts: Amended bill will be reintroduced in November New Hampshire: Legislation re-referred to January New Jersey: Legislation will be reintroduced in December New York: Legislation introduced in June; will be considered in January Pennsylvania: Legislation introduced in September; under consideration Vermont: No legislation introduced yet.
