  1. What Can EVLT Treatment Do for You? Vein conditions like varicose veins, spider veins, and deep vein thrombosis affect millions of people worldwide. Such conditions are often painful and can make day- to-day activities difficult. At USA Vein Clinics, we believe that the right treatment can solve any problem. We have many treatment centers spread across America, and our doctors are expertly trained to administer EVLT treatment. Don’t let your painful or unsightly veins get you down. Get rid of them! What Does EVLT Stand For? EVLT is an acronym for Endovenous Laser Therapy, also known as Endovenous Laser Ablation treatment. Let us break down the name. Endovenous refers to something that ‘takes place or is found in veins.’ EVLT treatment uses powerful lasers to treat veins, laser standing for Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation. Furthermore, therapy is any treatment for a medical condition. While

  2. ablation describes something that aims to correct medical anomalies by destroying the source of the problem. The word means literally ‘to destroy.’ EVLT/EVLA treats common vein conditions like varicose veins, using a laser to destroy the problem veins from within, while the patient is under local anesthetic. Compared to older surgical treatments, studies have shown that EVLT treatment is one of the most effective of its kind. How Does EVLT Work? EVLT, depending on your treatment center, is performed under local anesthetic as you are unlikely to experience much discomfort. Furthermore, general anesthetic adds several risks to the procedure and is more expensive. Your surgeon will perform your ELVT treatment using a technique called Tumescence or Tumescent anesthesia. While you are under ultrasound, your doctor will insert a needle into your vein, close to the knee or ankle. They will then pass a wire, and a thin tube called a sheath through the vein towards the top. Once they have inserted the needle and sheath, they will inject anesthetic into the vein. This will numb the surrounding tissue and the vein itself. Adrenaline will cause the targeted vein to contract onto the sheath so that it provides strong contact with the vein. Once your doctor has prepared the sheath, the laser fiber is passed up the vein and activated to heat the vein. The fluid volume inside the vein helps to disperse the laser energy, ensuring surrounding tissues are not harmed, and only the vein destroyed. The sheath is then removed, eviscerating the vein. You should start to notice an improvement in the following weeks. Why Choose EVLT? While visible varicose veins may be unsightly, they are mainly a symptom rather than the cause. EVLT is designed to treat the underlying problem, i.e. venous reflux. This is when vein valves become faulty and fail to close properly, allowing blood to flow back up the vein. As the blood pools in your extremities, it reduces blood flow and can cause the veins to distend. This then leads to moderate to severe pain and the bulging veins associated with varicosity. It’s important to note that EVLT treatment does not treat the bulging veins that result from varicose veins. However, EVLT will reduce pain and allow the body to heal itself, improving blood flow at a natural pace.
