  2. How to Decide Which Plate Carrier at US Patriot Is Right for You Choosing the right plate carrierfor the job can seem complicated, but it doesn’t have to be. Depending on how you plan to use it and accounting for variables like where you are deployed and whether your commanding officer will allow you to bring your own plate carrier, you might need specific options. Here are some factors to consider when choosing your next plate carrier at US Patriot. Plate Size First, you need to factor in which carriers will hold the right plate size. Not all armor plates are the same size, so be sure you are getting the correct carrier for the size of the plates you will be using. If you add extra padding for comfort, make sure there is room for the pads unless the carrier comes with padding built in. When the plate size matches your plate carrier, you can expect optimal protection. Which Cummerbund Is Right for You? There are a wide variety of cummerbunds on the market. The key is to find one that is comfortable and moves with you. You may want one that is “slick” and low-profile, such as skeletal cummerbunds, or ones with sides that have MOLLE webbing or pouches for holding extra rifle mags. More traditional cummerbunds often have clips, but modern cummerbunds usually attach to the plate carrier with Velcro. An example of a modern cummerbund is the Crye Precision JPC, available at US Patriot.

  3. MOLLE, Laser-Cut, or Other Attachment Systems Next is the method of attaching accessories and pouches. MOLLE is common, but laser-cut MOLLE can keep things in place more reliably and with less give, though it can be more difficult to thread. There are also hook-and-loop attachment methods, but these are often used in combination with another system. You might also look into quick-attach loops for anything from gloves to side armor plates. Quick-Release Systems Quick-release systems are less for your own use and most often meant for a squadmate to use to help make you lighter and easier to move out of harm’s way, should you become incapacitated. It can be a nice feature, but it may not be required. Many plate carriers come with a loop specifically made for grabbing and dragging the wearer. If you want a quick-release system, consider the Agilite K19, available at US Patriot. Wires and Hydration Do your shoulder straps have loops to pass a hydration tube or your radio’s wires through? If you want to keep a push-to-talk device on your shoulder strap, it’s a necessity. By the same token, if you want quick access to your water supply, you’ll need a way to keep the tube in place as it loops over from your back. Both can be essential in an unexpected situation. Padding and Comfort Just like selecting the best military boots, you also want comfort and padding in your plate carrier. Instead of cushioning your feet as you run, though, the padding on a plate carrier is usually in two spots to make it more comfortable: on the shoulder straps and between you and the plates. Comfortable boots prevent blisters, but the padding in armor will help you carrier the plates without sore shoulders and keep the plates from bouncing into you and moving around in the carrier. The padding is often an extra option, so make sure it is available for your chosen plate carrier.
