  2. InIndia, achildissexuallyabusedevery15minutes, accordingtothegovernmentfiguresupto2016. TheNationalCrimeRecordsBureau report, released onThursday, showsasteadyriseinincidentsof offencesagainstchildren. Childsexualabusehasbeeninfocusinrecent monthsafterthecaseofa10-year-oldrapevictim whowasforcedtogivebirth hittheheadlines. Twoofheruncleswere sentenced tolifeinjailfor rapingher.

  3. Accordingtothereporton crimesinIndiafor2016, released byIndianHomeMinister RajnathSinghinDelhi, 106,958 casesofcrimesagainstchildren wererecordedin2016. Ofthese, 36,022caseswere recordedunderPocso (ProtectionofChildrenfrom SexualOffences) Act.

  4. TheBBC'sGeetaPandeyin DelhisaysIndiaishometothe largestnumberofsexually abusedchildrenintheworld, butthereisgeneralreluctance totalkaboutthetopicsothe realnumberofcasescouldbe muchhigher.

  5. Accordingtoa2007study conductedbyIndia'sministryof womenandchilddevelopment, 53% ofchildrensurveyedsaidthey hadbeensubjectedtosomeform ofsexualabuse. Campaignerssaymostofthe abusersarepeopleknowntothe victims, likeparents, relativesand schoolteachers.
