  3. JOB • The reason why I am going to Colombia is to become a coal miner. • Colombia has the largest coal reserves in Latin America! • Colombia's coal output has increased consistently from 4 million tons in 1981 to 65.6 million tons in 2006! • I plan on getting a job at Cerrejon Coal Mine, it is the largest coal mine in Colombia. I would like to be a machine operator they make $24.63 and hour or $49,110 a year, starting out. This is pretty good pay! • For this job there is no formal education required, I can go there and learn as I go.

  4. Continued… • The basic things I would be doing as a machine operator at Cerrejon Coal Mine, would be operating machinery, cutting out rock to get to the coal and often times repairing machinery. • Often times, coal mines have shifts so, depending on where I start I could be working 8-10 hours and 5 days a week. I do get health insurance with Cerrejon and I get benefits like, sick days and vacation days.

  5. Problems?? • Colombia does have a few problems, much like America. • Some people in Colombia do, do drugs along with every other country, but Colombia is teamed up with the United States of America to crack down on it. • Marijuana is illegal in Colombia. • There has been gang problems in Colombia in the last decade, but Colombian police has cracked down on it.

  6. AREA • The Coal mine is on the map, Zona Mina. MAICO Coal Mine

  7. APARTMENT • I will stay in the apartment in the Las Orquideas (Norte) neighborhood in Bogota, Colombia. Features • Bedrooms: 3 • Bathrooms: 2 • 500 dollars a month • 72 dollar fee for the first month • Built area: 68 Square Meters • Income level (Estrato): 4 • Garages: 1 • Property built: 5 to 15 years ago Other Features Green space / Park Reception room Close to shopping centers 24 Hour Security

  8. Opes Group • Here are some actual coal companies in Colombia • The Opes Group is also a pretty big coal company for Colombia, located in central Colombia in the capital. • The address is, Santa Ana Occidental, Bogotá, Bogota 110111, Colombia . • Opes Group has oil and coal mines both hydro and geothermal

  9. Complejo Carbonífero de El Cerrejón Here is another example • La Guajira, Colombia • El Cerrejon has probably has the most Coal output for Colombia, mainly because of there location, its nice for transportation because it is right on then atlantic ocean.

  10. Conclusion Colombia is highly known for there coal and many other types of resources. Right now Colombia is doing absolutely wonderful with there economy. They are also ahead of Mexico’s types of business too. There are tons of Apartments up for rent/leasing, some of which are very nice. The one in Las Orquideas, Bogota, is wonderful; with 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. I will probably work at either Opes Group, or Cerrejon.
