  2. ¿Qué es un objeto directo? • A direct object is the person or thing receiving the action of the verb. Ejemplos • I gave the cat food. • Pongo la mesa.

  3. How do you find the direct object? • You ask a ‘what’ question using the verb in the sentence. Ejemplos • I gave the cat food. • What did I give? • I gave food. • Pongo la mesa. • What did I set? • I set the table (mesa).

  4. ¿Qué es el objeto directo? • I eat eggs for breakfast. • They order lunch every day. • We gave the presents to the kids. • Tenemos lápices. • Siempre pido la sopa. • Sirven el almuerzo.

  5. Direct Object Pronouns • A direct object can be replaced by a pronoun to avoid repeating the noun. • In English: • it, them • I brought the dessert. • I brought it. • I ordered the french fries. • I ordered them.

  6. En español… • Like adjectives and definite articles (el, la, los, las) the direct object pronouns must agree with the noun it replaces. • Pronombres en español: • lo (masculine, singular) = it • la (feminine, singular) = it • los (masculine, plural) = them • las (feminine, plural) = them

  7. Location of Direct Object Pronouns • Direct object pronouns can go in two places. • Before a conjugated verb. • After an infinitive.
