ENGR 107 - Introduction to Engineering Homework • Homework will be assigned on a weekly basis. • Homework is due prior to class on the date specified. • No late submissions accepted. • Each problem will be graded as follows • 0 no attempt made to solve problem • 5 reasonable effort made to solve problem • 10 significant effort made to solve problem • Homework is essential to the learning process!

ENGR 107 - Introduction to Engineering Homework Submission • All homework solutions will be submitted electronically. • Solutions will be submitted in pdf format • All parts of the solution will be included in a single document. • Email solutions to Dr. Lorie (clorie@gmu.edu) • Format of subject line: “ENGR107 - <last name> <first initial> - homework #<n>”

ENGR 107 - Introduction to Engineering Tests • Two tests during the semester. • No final exam. • All exams are closed-book. • However, you will be allowed one 8.5 x 11 inch sheet of paper on which to put notes. • No make-up exams. • In the case of an emergency, see me. • Notify me in advance (whenever possible) if a conflict or problem exists.

ENGR 107 - Introduction to Engineering Design Project • The design project will be implemented over the course of the entire semester. • Students will work in teams. • Teams should expect to meet several times outside of class to design, build, and test their solution. • Teams will demonstrate their working solution at the end of the semester.

ENGR 107 - Introduction to Engineering Design Project Documentation • A written report will be submitted in three parts • Preliminary Report #1 • Includes Chapters 1 – 5 of the Table of Contents • Preliminary Report #2 • Includes Chapters 6 – 7 of the Table of Contents • Final Report • Includes all chapters of the Table of Contents • Teammate evaluation forms • Team meeting (minutes) forms

ENGR 107 - Introduction to Engineering In-class Projects • Four in-class projects • Taken from “Impromptu Projects” in text. • Each will be allocated 1 hour and 15 minutes • Students will work in their assigned teams • Teams will come prepared with the required materials as specified in the project description. • Failure to do so will result in a zero being assigned to all members of the team.

  12. ENGR 107 - Introduction to Engineering Attendance • Attendance is mandatory. • Attendance will be taken periodically. • Failure to attend class will adversely affect your final grade. • You are responsible for all work covered.

ENGR 107 - Introduction to Engineering Grading • The final grade will be calculated as follows: • Homework 10% • Test #1 15% • Test #2 15% • In-class Projects 10% • Preliminary Report #1 10% • Preliminary Report #2 10% • Final Report 20% • Teamwork / Class participation 10% • The letter grade assignment is indicated in the syllabus.

ENGR 107 - Introduction to Engineering You are expected to: • Attend class (mandatory). • Spend a minimum of 6 hours each week outside of class learning the material. • Read the text book. • Do the homework. • Meet with your teammates outside of class to work on the semester-long design project.
