  2. Definitions • Timbre-Instruments and/ or sound quality • Genre- Larger musical category • Musical Style- Smaller sub-category • Melody-Main idea or line of a musical work • Beat-A steady and reoccurring pulse, what makes you tap your foot

  3. What to listen for • Timbre- Listen for what instruments are being played and if they are electronic, acoustic and or distorted • Melody- What timbre/ instrument is prominent? • Beat- Is it a drum machine? Is it a synthesizer?

  4. Top 10- what you need to do • Example: Listen to White snake's “ Here I go again” • Label your paper like so: • Timbre- • Melody- • Beat- • Genre • Musical Style Beside each one, answer the questions from the previous slide.

  5. Whitesnake example • Timbre- Guitar, drums, bass guitar, vocals • Electronic sounds • Some distortion • Melody- Vocals & Guitar • Beat- Drum set, heavy • Genre- Rock • Musical Style- metal/ hair
