What is Traffic Incident Management? • Traffic Incident Management Refers to the coordinated, preplanned, procedures utilized by agencies charged with responding to traffic incidents, to rapidly and efficiently detect, respond to, and clear an incident. • Incident Response Procedures • Planned Incidents • Partially Planned Incidents • Unplanned Incidents It’s just having a plan

Emergency Responders • Law Enforcement • Fire and Rescue • Emergency Communications • Centers • Emergency Medical Services (EMS) • MoDOT and KDOT • Public Works Departments • Towing and Recovery • Media • Information Service Providers • Coroners and Medical Examiners • Hazardous Material Specialists

Why Do We Need Traffic Incident Management? • Reduce Line of Duty Deaths and Injuries for Police, Fire, EMS, Transportation and Towing Personnel • Secondary Crashes Kill or Injure Hundreds • Highway Closure Creates “Community” • Congestion From Incidents Has Significant Economic and Liability Costs, and It Decreases Regional Air Quality
