Conclusions • Railways in Europe need to take advantage of Information Technology to reach a higher level of competitiveness, safety and quality of service • The European Commission is giving precise guidelines, e. g. Directives for Interoperability • Standards are needed to support the Technical Specifications for Interoperability • Europe wide infrastructures need to be developed to support the new organisation of railway operators, as well as intermodality • Integration of existing and new technologies can enable new models for services (dynamic passenger information, maintenance) as part of a global fleet management system Laboratori Fondazione Guglielmo Marconi
