  1. Welcome! Do these right away as you come in: Find any seat and take out a pen or pencil and your notebook as soon as you enter and prior to the bell. Turn to the last page of your notebook. In the center at the top, write this: 9/2 – Jpractice * The first 10 minutes of each class is journaling –  Tell me about the funniest thing you’ve seen happen in a class that you can remember. 3. SIGN the roster with your initials when it is passed to you.

A typical day in English starts with a journal entry & attendance. • My expectation is that as soon as you arrive, you will do the following: • Find your seat • Take out your notebook and a pen/pencil • Locate your journal in the back of your notebook and respond to the daily writing prompt on the screen. • Initial the roster when it comes to you * Yes, you have to make-up missed journals. * Yes, I will be collecting notebooks for journal evaluation. * Writing topics and purpose will shift based upon current events, units and other things we are working upon in class.

English then continues with going over homework and/ or collecting homework. • Here’s how that looks in the UPPER LEFT corner of your paper: On your homework, all of this is required, no matter the assignment/quiz, etc…: First and Last Name [ fully written out] Hour __ Date 9/2/14 World Lit – Ms. Lehman DO IT NOW ON YOUR PRACTICE JOURNAL

  5. Collecting Homework: Here’s how we roll in English class, unless I give different instructions: • 1. Pass all papers to the RIGHT. • 2. People in the last row pass it BACK TO THE LAST PERSON. • 3. Last person puts it in the correct tray. Boom! • Let’s try it – class with the best time of the day gets a treat tomorrow 

  6. Classwork, Activities, Quizzes, Tests come in the middle of class: Activity for day one- DIRECTIONS: 1 3 2 4 5 6

Assignments/Homework: Here’s your homework for tomorrow: • Get here on time • Find a different seat than you sat in today • Sit by someone different  • Begin working on the journal response right away – seated and working by the bell. • Sign the attendance roster each day when it comes around.

  8. The hour ends with a mini 10 minute MUGS lesson: In the front of your English notebook, write this on the top line: Daily MUGS • On the top line, in the left column, write today’s date and the number of the MUGS drill: 9/2 #1
