They are a subset of artificial intelligence (AI) characterized by their autonomy and goal-oriented behavior, which is poised to revolutionize cybersecurity. Its ability to learn, adapt, and act independently makes it a powerful tool for detecting and responding to threats. Agentic AI- In Depth At its core, agentic AI is designed to act as an autonomous agent, capable of perceiving its environment, making decisions, and taking actions to achieve specific goals. Powered by AI Agents in Cybersecurity, these can analyze large datasets, identify patterns, and generate actionable insights. Traditional automation techniques are based on predefined rules that govern the behavior of a system, while AI agents run on training data and instructions. In Cybersecurity, the following goals make huge sense: Ÿ Threat Detection: Identifying and classifying malicious activities, such as malware attacks, phishing attempts, and data breaches. Agentic AI in Cybersecurity- Expected Risks While the potential benefits of agentic AI are significant, it is important to acknowledge the challenges and risks associated with its use: Ÿ Bias and Fairness: Agentic AI algorithms are trained on data, and if that data is biased, the algorithms themselves will be biased. This can lead to unfair or discriminatory outcomes. Ÿ Explainability: Many agentic AI algorithms are complex and opaque, making it difficult to understand how they arrive at their decisions. This lack of explainability can make it difficult to debug errors or identify and address biases. Ÿ Security: Agentic AI systems themselves can be targets for attack. Attackers could attempt to manipulate or compromise these systems, using them to launch their attacks or to gain access to sensitive information. Ÿ Trust: Building trust in agentic AI systems is essential for their widespread adoption. Agentic AI in SOC Automation- More Challenges to be Met SOC automation is a process of using technology to automate security operations center (SOC) tasks. It can help security teams work more efficiently and respond to threats faster. However, with the rise of Agentic AI, there lies a massive loophole in addressing the following challenges that crop up in automating SOC. Legacy systems leave SOCs exposed to growing AI threats Chronic alert fatigue leads to missed intrusion attempts and high staff turnover Organizations face staffing shortages for key SOC roles A growing tidal wave of security data risk threatens to overwhelm SOC teams The most significant payoff from agentic AI will come from augmenting SOC analysts and teams with the automation of routine tasks while giving them more breakthrough intelligence tools to learn with. The Way Forward In a recent global news, Donald Trump announced a significant initiative to strengthen America's AI Infrastructure; centered around a project called 'STARGATE.' Led by OpenAI, SoftBank, and Oracle; the project aims to attract up to USD 500 billion in private investments over four years; including building data centers in Texas. He further stated that this initiative could create over 100,000 jobs soon while boosting the US's ability to compete with countries such as China (Source- Whitehouse).
