  6. Professional and Educational Goals • Masters in Instructional Technology with an Emphasis in Assistive Technology • My goal is to continue teaching and to use my expertise to help out administrators, teachers, and parents to get the best out of the Instructional Technology available for educators and students.

  7. Background • Having had two special needs children of my own and having taught many students in my classroom that can benefit from the use of Assistive Technology, I felt compelled to get as many classes in Assistive Technology as possible. I feel that any time we use technology to help the students it can be considered Assistive Technology. There are just some students that may require more assistance than others.

  8. As a parent of a non-verbal, non-ambulatory child, we have tried, discarded and tried again many different types of Assistive Technology. • Our oldest son could have benefitted from the use of many different types of Assistive Technology, but his teacher’s did not offer it to him nor were they receptive to our suggestions.

  9. Technology used • I have knowledge of and have used the following pieces of technology. • Wolf Communication system • Computer • LCD Projector • MIMIO (Interactive Whiteboard) • Clickers (Student Response System) • MOBI (Interactive Chalkboard) • LiveScribe Pens • Document Cameras • Kindle

  10. Computer Programs • Microsoft Office Suite • Word • Power Point • Excel • Outlook • Publisher • ALEKS • Computer Math Program

  11. Future use • Often times teachers are not aware of what is out there that is available for their students. They may be afraid to try something new, out of their comfort zone, and without someone who can help them learn the program or device. This is where I hope to be of assistance to the teachers, students and parents. • Most schools have an Instructional Technology person in place, but I know of very few who have someone knowledgeable about the different types of Assistive devices and or programs out there.

  12. Even though I have taught for many years and may be eligible for retirement in the near future; with this degree in place, I could retire from teaching and work on a consultative basis with many schools in the area.
