  2. Temperate rainforestGeography & Climate • Location: Europe North America • Description: new Zealand southern Chile and Pacific: Northwest United States • Precipitation: 200-400 • Temperature range: 9-12 degrees celsius

  3. Temperate RainforestBiodiversity • Plants species : Douglas fir, Western red cedar, spruce, mosses, and lichens • Animals species : black bears, cougar, bob cat, endangered northern spotted owl, threatened marbled murrelet salamanders, lynx, and wolf

  4. Temperate RainforestAdaptations Needed for Survival • Plants: The spruce tree is tall so it can get sunlight. • Animals: The Cougar is a fast animal so it can catch its food.

  5. TemperateInteractions of Biotic and Abiotic • Biotic: Birds eat cones when they fall from trees. Deer feed on the grass • Abiotioc: Rain helps trees grow. Water such as streams, support amphibians.

  6. What is Biodiversity? • Biodiversity is the variety of life. It can be studied on many levels.

  7. How does biodiversity contribute to the sustainability of an ecosystem? • Use the handout given in class to answer the above question • Biodiversity allows ecosystems to adjust to disturbances like extreme fires and floods. If a reptile species goes extinct, a forest with 20 other reptiles is likely to adapt better than another forest with only one reptile.
