Geospatially Enabling DSpace RepositoriesStandards-compliant ways to georeference items in DSpace EDINA ShareGeo http://www.edina.ac.uk/projects/sharegeo/ • Edinburgh DataSharehttp://datashare.edina.ac.uk/dspace/ • Defines location using place names as keywords stored in Spatial Coverage element • Place names specified in Geonames (http://www.geonames.org/) • Dynamically queries Geonames to find matching places • Ensures place names are correctly spelled to enable future searching by providing controlled vocabulary suggested best practice by DCMI • Can define hierarchy Items in ShareGeo are automatically spatially indexed in the database on ingest so the user can perform simple or complex spatial queries e.g. give me all the datasets that intersect my area of interest Bounding coordinates of dataset are held in the dc.coverage.spatial field (DCMI Box encoding scheme)
