  2. God Saves Israel • Problem - A Pharaoh who did not know Joseph. The people of God become slaves. • Pharaoh - population control (1:18-22) • God- full of surprises as he works out salvation/ God saves Moses and places him in the house of Pharaoh • Chapters 3 and 4 - Moses pushed into wilderness and learns of God’s nature and plan.

  3. God Saves Israel, cont. • Chapters 5-12 - Moses vs. Pharaoh = Yahweh vs. Pagan Deities (7:1ff) • Dual aspect of salvation - As God saves Israel, He is also judging the Egyptians • Plagues- Increasing intensity. Firstborn vs. Passover • Chapters 13:17-15:21 - Red Sea epitome of salvation and judgment

  4. Theological Message • Exodus God’s greatest act of salvation in the OT • God remembers the covenant (2:23-4) • Irony - God is in control even though Pharaoh is king. (9:6) Moses is saved and preserved under the nose of Pharaoh himself.
