SCHOOL FOR POSTGRADUATE STUDIES • TheSchoolforPosgraduateStudiescameintobeingwhentheThirdCycleStudiesService and the Centre forContinuingEducationweremerged. • Itwascreatedbythe UGR Governing Council on 27 November 2008. • Aims: • Tomanage and co-ordinatepostgraduatestudies – both UGR and Officialprogrammes – and alltheprocessesthat lead toobtainingDoctoratequalifications. • TopromoteLifelongLearning. • Toprovidequalityprogrammesthat are adaptedtobothprofessional and researchneeds. • Purpose: • Topromotepostgraduatestudies. • Topromotetheinternationalization of thesestudies. • Competences: • Tohandletheacademic and administrativeprocedures. • Toadministratethebudget and searchoutexternalsources of financing. • Todisseminatethe catalogue of postgraduatecourses.

COURSES ORGANISED & QUALIFICATIONS OBTAINED • OFFICIAL COURSES: At theend, anofficialqualificationthatisvalidthroughoutSpain: • UniversityMaster’sProgrammes • DoctorateProgrammes UniversityMaster’sorDoctorateDegreeQualification • UGR COURSES: At theend, a qualificationissuedbythe UGR. These can bespecialization, refreshment, professional, scientific, artsorfurthereducationcourses: • UGR Master’sCourses • UGR ExpertCourses • SpecializationCourses Qualifications: UGR MasterorExpert, Specialization Diploma.

INTERNATIONALIZATION OF POSTGRADUATE STUDIES TheSchoolforPostgraduateStudiescurrently has threetypes of posgtraduateprogrammes: • LATIN-AMERICAN DOCTORATES: 4 Withinframework of theLatin-American UniversityPostgraduateAssociation (AUIP), aninternationalbodypromotingpostgraduate and PhDstudies in South America. • CO-OPERATIONAL DOCTORATE PROGRAMMES: 17 • “ERASMUS MUNDUS” MASTER’S AND DOCTORATE PROGRAMMES, themainaim of whichistopromotethequality of Europeanhigher-educationprogrammes, throughdifferentActions: • Action 1A: JointPostgraduateProgrammes, developedbyconsortia of Europeanuniversities. • Action 1B: Erasmus MundusJoint Doctoral Programmes. At this time, the UGR co-ordinatesoris a member of 4 Erasmus MundusMaster’sProgrammes.

GRANTS • OFFICIAL POSTGRADUATE STUDIES: • General StateGrants (Ministry of Education). • Income-basedloans. • Mobilitygrantsforvisitingstudents and lecturersonOfficialMaster’sProgrammes. • Mobility subsidies forlecturers and studentsonJointMaster’sProgrammesimplementedbyFrench and Spanishuniversities. • UGR ScholarshipProgramme. • Others: Talentia, MAE-AECID, AUIP, FULBRIGHT, Fundación Carolina, Fundación Ramón Areces, etc.

  8. BECAS GRANTS • UGR POSTGRADUATE STUDIES: • 15% of coursefees are re-invested in grants, in UGR Master’s and ExpertCourses and, also, in SpecializationCourses. • MAE-AECID grants. • Fundación Carolina grants.

FINANCING OFFICIAL POSTGRADUATE STUDIES • Dependingonthetype of Master’sorDoctorateprogramme, the UGR designates a specificamounttoeach, in accordancewiththerunningcosts. • Subsidies fromOfficialBodies, InstitutionsorPrivateFirms. UGR POSTGRADUATE STUDIES • Officialfees per studentenrolled. • Subsidies fromOfficialBodies, InstitutionsorPrivateFirms.

  13. st QUALITY CONTROL In anefforttoimprovethequality of theservicesprovided and usersatisfaction, theSchoolforPostgraduateStudies has implemented a number of quality-orientedactions, whichinclude: • Introduction of a quality control system: in 2000 (Centre forContinuingEducation) and 2008 (ThirdCycle – Postgraduate – Service). Awardedthe ISO 9001 qualityrecognitionfortheSchoolforPostgraduateStudies in December 2009.

QUALITY POLICY • Establishment and observance of the SERVICES CHARTER. • ENVIRONMENTAL POLICY: OurSchooliscommittedtotheenvironmentalmanagementsystemintroducedbythe UGR, accordingtothenorms of ISO 14001. • Shouldusersrequire, theyhavetherighttofillout a COMPLAINTS, OBSERVATIONS AND SUGGESTIONS form.

  15. PERMANENT PROGRAMME OF OPEN EDUCATION A UGR initiative, introduced in theacademicyear 1994/95. • Aim: Tocovertheeducationalrequirements of prospectivestudentsfromthe over-50 agebracket. • Objective: Toimprovethe personal and social abilities of thisgroup of studentsontwolevels: education and welfare.
